Anything but Scattered - EBALDC Awarded by the Oakland Heritage Alliance
EBALDC Receives $25,000 Donation for IDA Program
Anything but Scattered - EBALDC Awarded by the Oakland Heritage Alliance for OPLP
(Oakland, CA.) – December 7, 2001 – The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation is one of five organizations to receive the annual Oakland Heritage Alliance’s Partners in Preservation Award. The award recognizes developers, residents, community activists, buildings and institutions for their outstanding preservation efforts and for enhancing Oakland for all its citizens. Ten awards were presented at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center.
EBALDC’s Oakland Point Limited Partnership (OPLP) rehabilitates dilapidated
Victorian buildings into beautiful homes in West Oakland, in partnership with
Jubilee West. The projects, scattered around West Oakland and performed in
phases, are not limited to historic preservation and construction, although the
award acknowledges appropriate and affordable solutions to high cost materials.
The rehabilitation projects also result in rental housing for low-income
residents which is safe, structurally sound, and which instills pride in the
neighborhood. Houses recently completed are located on the 1400 block of 10th
Street, and the 900 and 1400 blocks of Center Street in Oakland.

EBALDC Receives $25,000 Donation for IDA Program
(Oakland, CA.) – November 19, 2001 – The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation is pleased to announce receiving a $25,000 donation to support the Bay Area IDA Collaborative. The donation, from the East Bay Community Foundation’s Anonymous Fund, is the largest gift EBALDC received from an individual in 2001 and the largest donation from an individual to our IDA program ever.
EBALDC is the lead agency of the Bay Area IDA Collaborative, California’s first fully functioning IDA program. IDAs (Individual Development Accounts) are matched savings accounts designed to help low-income families save money to purchase a home, start their own business, or pay for education or job training. More than ten percent of the participants in the program have used their savings to purchase a home.
Founded in 1928, the East Bay Community Foundation is the oldest community-based
philanthropic organization in Northern California and currently manages over
400 donor funds. Last year the Foundation granted $15.9 million to nonprofit
organizations and today its assets total about $136 million.
